This is Theo, she has been the friendly face of Cariad Cafe for the last couple of years: today is a bitter-sweet day at the Cafe as Theo is moving on to an exciting new phase in her life. We will miss having Theo around during the week. Pop in and see her on her last day.
This is Theo's story, shared recently...
Hi, my name is Theodora and I have been coming to Thornhill Church since 2022 with my mum.
I was blessed to have been born to Christian parents who raised me to know Jesus, and at a very young age I accepted Him into my life. However, I went through a really tough time in my teens when I experienced my parent’s divorce, which resulted in me putting God to the side. Stress, anxiety and overthinking took over from when my mum and I moved to America from Cyprus and then finally settled in the UK. My main focus was getting an education whilst mum worked hard to provide for the both of us, and when I finally started working all I could think about was our financial situation.
I would pray to God when times got really tough, but my relationship with Him was never consistent. It came to a point (which I also struggle with today) where I wanted to talk to Him but because I neglected Him for a long time it felt like I was only coming to Him as a last resort.
Coming to Thornhill Church was honestly a breath of fresh air and we felt welcome from day one. Even though I still have my personal struggles with prayer and reading the bible, I feel closer to God here and I am working on my relationship with Him.
One thing I know is that whatever I have been through, I have witnessed God working in my life and He has been there even when I didn’t ask for help, and He has protected me many a time. I can never deny Him because I see Him everywhere in every little moment.
Our prayer, purpose and passion is for everyone to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.
As a church we meet every Sunday 10:30am in our building, and in the week we have 12 home groups. We’ve served the community in various ways since the early 1980’s when Thornhill became an area, and currently run a full time nursery, community cafe, and much more.
